Votes Needed For Local 'Feed the Birds' Volunteer Initiative

27 April 2018 2:14pm

In a bid to help more people who are feeling lonely and isolated Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is urging people to vote for a special volunteer initiative so it can gain more funding to expand across the county.

Shropshire CCG, working alongside Shropshire Wildlife Trust, and the Care and Community Coordinators (based in GP Practices), has helped to develop the ‘Feed the Birds’ volunteer initiative. The aim is to help tackle isolation and loneliness in the community by connecting people with volunteers who visit them weekly to feed the birds in their garden. Isolated people have the opportunity to learn about and engage with wildlife and socialise with volunteers, giving them a sense of purpose, reducing isolation and improving wellbeing.

Feed the Birds are looking for your vote to help secure long-term funding from The Peoples Projects (where the Big Lottery Fund, ITV, STV, and The National Lottery, team up to give the public a chance to decide how National Lottery funding can make a difference in local communities). This would enable the initiative to be rolled out across Shropshire, helping to reach out to more people who could really benefit.

Voting closes at midday on Monday, 30 April, 2018. Please visit The Peoples Projects website to cast your vote and support this local initiative.
