Take Part In The Biggest NHS Thank You Yet

30 June 2020 2:26pm

To mark the 72nd anniversary of the NHS on Sunday, 5 July, 2020, health leaders at Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are inviting residents to take part in a big ‘thank you’ clap at 5pm.

This coming together in a nationwide applause is not just for the NHS, but for all those who have volunteered or helped keep services and community networks going during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is also an opportunity for the NHS to thank the public for their support in following the lockdown guidance and social distancing measures which have helped to ease pressures on the NHS.

On the evening of Saturday, 4 July, national landmarks will be lit up in blue as part of a collective memorial across the country. People are being asked to put a light in their windows, such as an LED candle, lamp or torch, in remembrance of those we have lost during the pandemic.

Residents can take part in the NHS Anniversary by getting creative with colouring pens by downloading a NHS 72 Anniversary poster.

Dr Julian Povey, Chair of NHS Shropshire CCG and local GP, said: “The weekend is an opportunity for the NHS to give its own big thank you to everybody who has helped it continue during one of the biggest health challenges it has ever faced.

“The NHS 72nd Anniversary is the perfect opportunity to thank all key workers who have kept us going during the pandemic with one almighty applause at 5pm on Sunday.”

Dr Jo Leahy, Chair of Telford and Wrekin CCG and local GP, said: “We’d really like to thank the public for their continued support during this challenging time, from the volunteers to the weekly Clap for Carers, the NHS could not have coped alone.

“We hope local residents will join in, in any way they feel they can, to pay tribute and thank everyone who has played their part in supporting our nation through this pandemic.”
