Shine a Light on International Nurses Day
On Tuesday, 12 May, it is International Nurses Day and we will be celebrating all nurses who are helping the NHS face our biggest ever challenge.
2020 is also the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwife’ and marks the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of the modern nursing profession.
Across the country, nurses are caring for COVID-19 patients and people who have other health conditions.
Nurses are working in a wide variety of roles and collectively they form a vital part of looking after local communities.
This year we want to thank all our nurses for the incredible work they do to protect our nation’s health.
Light is a visible symbol of welcome, hope and warmth so we are asking people to ‘Shine a Light’ for our nurses at 8.30pm on Tuesday by placing a light*, or picture of a light in their window, to show their gratitude and support.
*Please take care with naked flames.
