Health professionals from across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin are reminding residents to call NHS 111 this winter for the best help and advice for urgent but non-life threatening health conditions. Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) advises that NHS 111, which is available 24/7, provides answers to questions about symptoms, either on the website or by speaking to a fully trained advisor over the phone.

A trio of England’s top medics have urged those at risk of suffering from or spreading flu to ensure they get their free NHS vaccination this winter. The health service in England has prepared for its largest ever flu protection drive to help keep people well and ease pressure on urgent care services over the colder months. The number of people eligible has topped 25 million this year as the offer of the vaccine is now extended to all primary school aged children – an extra 600,000 children.
Events Celebrate Successful Launch of Baby Buddy App

The Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin local maternity system (LMS) will be celebrating the successful introduction of the Baby Buddy mobile phone app, which supports new parents, at two special events in Telford and Shrewsbury on Wednesday, October 23. The events will be taking place at the Willow Women’s Fitness and Wellness Studio, in High Street, Dawley, between 10.30am-12.30pm, and at the Radbrook Community Centre, in Calverton Way, Shrewsbury between 2.30-4.30pm.
New Online GP Consultation Service Launched at Shropshire Practices

Online GP consultations have been introduced at some GP practices in the county by NHS Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The eConsult software could save patients a trip to their GP and point them in the right direction for care. It will also ease pressure on GP practices by cutting the need for face-to-face appointments.

New Joint Accountable Officer Appointed for NHS Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group

David Evans is to take up the new post of Joint Accountable Officer for the County’s two Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and take them forward to becoming a single commissioning organisation. David is currently the Accountable Officer for Telford & Wrekin CCG and will start in the newly created role of AO for both CCGs shortly. His role will be to oversee Shropshire CCG and Telford & Wrekin CCG and then lead the single strategic commissioning organisation.
Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin CCGs Encourage Local People to Stop Smoking this October

Smokers in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin are being encouraged to join in with the nation’s biggest quit attempt and ‘split up’ with smoking from 1 October. So far Stoptober has supported more than 1.9 million people on their quit journey. This year the campaign will target all smokers highlighting the benefits of “breaking up” and urging them to re-evaluate their bad relationship with smoking and “split up”.
Festival of Ageing

A range of organisations from across Shropshire have come together to create a day to celebrate older people. Inspirational and internationally renowned speakers will explain the science of ageing, as well as the latest thinking on what keeps people well. There will also be taster sessions of local activities for participants to try; local activities that are known to be good for people’s wellbeing as well as information stalls. The festival will be held on Tuesday, 15 October, 2019 9am to 4pm at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

Health professionals and clinicians interested in frailty from across the system are invited to the event, which aims to bring people together, share points of view and to induce a more collaborative and joined-up approach. It will be held between 9am and 1pm at University Centre Shrewsbury, The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ.
