Living with dementia

A diagnosis of dementia can be a shock for you, your friends and family and it’s important you try and stay as independent as possible and keep enjoying your usual activities.

You might find that your eating habits change, but you should continue to eat a healthy, balanced diet and get plenty of exercise.

If you drive, you need to tell the DVLA when you’ve been diagnosed with dementia because it could affect your ability to drive. Visit dvla.gov.uk or call 0300 790 6806 for more information.

There are lots of local services in Shropshire to support you. These include:

  • Alzheimer's Society (Shropshire Office), call Shrewsbury 01743 341 800.
  • Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, call Shrewsbury 01743 233 123 or Telford 01952 201 803.
